Brush Clearing & Lot Clearing in Whitestown, Indiana

Whitestown has grown faster than any other municipality in Indiana from 2010 onward, and the ground between the new streets is still brush, fence row and old field. We clear it for houses, shops and access, and mulch back what has grown over.

Land & Lot Clearing in Whitestown

Whitestown was laid out in 1851 when the railroad reached it, and for most of the time since it was a small Boone County town beside the tracks. That changed fast. The population more than tripled between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, the town annexed about six and a half thousand acres south of the old downtown in the late 2000s, and the Anson development grew up on that ground. Building and farm ground now sit side by side, and plenty of the in-between land has gone to brush.

Brush clearing is the most common call. Honeysuckle, briars, saplings and volunteer trees fill fence rows, the edges of fields that stopped being farmed and the backs of lots nobody has mowed in years. A forestry mulcher takes that down to chip in place, so there is no pile to haul and the ground is covered while grass returns. Where a house, pole barn or drive is going, it is full lot clearing instead: stumps and roots out and the holes filled.

Whitestown sits across Worth, Perry and Eagle townships, close enough to the line that some families here go to Lebanon schools and some to Zionsville. It is a good reminder that the ground changes across the town too: open farmland on one side, wooded draws on another, and commercial ground being cut along the interstate.

Whitestown rules for land you disturb

Whitestown runs its own Building, Planning and Engineering and Stormwater departments, and the Engineering and Stormwater Department runs the town's MS4 stormwater program. On projects that need a stormwater pollution prevention plan, the town says the plan goes to the Boone County Surveyor's office and the final approval is issued by Whitestown's Engineering Department. Once land disturbance reaches an acre or more, the state construction stormwater general permit from IDEM applies too.

Small brush jobs on a single lot are a different scale, but the right first step is the same: ask the town what your project needs before the work starts, and we will clear to suit. Property outside the town limits falls to the Boone County Area Plan office. Our guide to land clearing permits in Indiana covers who to ask about what.

Brush clearing or full lot clearing

They sound alike and they are not. Brush clearing takes back growth that does not belong, and the mulcher is usually the right machine: it chews standing brush and small trees into a layer of chip that shields the soil. It leaves the roots, which is fine where the ground will be lawn, pasture or woods.

Lot clearing for a build pulls the roots as well. Anything under a slab, footing, driveway or pole barn pad has to be solid ground, so the stumps come out, the holes are filled in lifts and compacted, and the topsoil is piled to one side for the finished yard. A lot of Whitestown jobs need both, and we price the two parts separately so you can see where the effort goes. More on the choice in the mulching vs. clearing guide.

Before anything breaks ground

Mulching works at the surface, but grubbing stumps, cutting a lane and stripping topsoil all dig. Indiana 811 needs at least two full working days' notice before digging and it is required by law, so we put the request in ahead of any job that goes below the surface. In a town growing this quickly, new lines go in all the time and old maps do not show them.

Field tile is the other thing to watch. Much of Boone County was farmed, much of it still is, and the tile under those fields is not part of an 811 locate. When a stump comes out with a piece of clay tile on its roots, we stop and sort the tile out before moving on, so the water still has a way out.

Who clears brush in Whitestown, Indiana?

On Grade clears brush and overgrown lots across Whitestown with a forestry mulcher and does full lot clearing for houses and shops. Call or text Travis at (317) 203-8928 with the address and a couple of photos of the ground.

Where do stormwater plans go for a Whitestown project?

The Town of Whitestown says stormwater pollution prevention plans are submitted to the Boone County Surveyor's office, and the final approval comes from the town's Engineering and Stormwater Department. Ask the town whether your project needs a plan at all before you start.

Will mulched brush grow back on my Whitestown lot?

Some will. Mulching leaves roots, so woody brush can sprout again, especially the first season. Regular mowing of the cleared ground keeps it in check, and the chip layer slows weeds while grass fills in. Where nothing should come back, full clearing with root removal is the answer.

Can you clear just the back half of a Whitestown lot?

Yes. Plenty of lots here have a mowed front and a back that has gone to brush. We mark the line with you, mulch or clear behind it, and leave the trees you want kept standing.
