Snow Plowing and Salting in Plainfield, IN
Plainfield sits on US 40 and I-70 next to the Indianapolis airport, and a lot of its ground is distribution: warehouses along Ronald Reagan Parkway and the interstate, with truck courts that cannot shut for a snow. The rest is subdivisions built from the 1970s on and older lots along US 40. Travis plows, salts and hauls snow on all of it.

Snow removal in Plainfield
Truck courts and dock aprons
The warehouses along Ronald Reagan Parkway and the I-70 interchanges run trucks through every storm. That makes the truck court the first thing cleared and the employee lot the second. Dock aprons have to be open the full width so a trailer can back in square, and the turning room in front of them has to stay clear of piles. A pile that creeps into the court after three storms costs dock space for the rest of the winter.
Those sites are big, flat and paved, and they fill up fast. Travis plows the lanes, pushes the snow to agreed pile spots at the edges, and loads the piles out with the skid steer and trucks when the edges are full. Hauling can be part of the seasonal contract or added when it is needed. The commercial snow removal contracts page covers how an agreement for a site like that is written.
The ridge from the road plow
The town plows its streets and the state plows US 40 and the interstate. Each pass leaves a ridge of heavy, salty snow across every entrance. On a warehouse drive that ridge is what a loaded truck hits on the way in, and on a retail lot it is what customers see first. Clearing it after the road has been plowed is part of the job, and the contract says so in writing.
Entrances also need a clear sight line. Piles at the corners of a drive grow until a driver pulling out cannot see the traffic on US 40. The pile spots are chosen on bare pavement in the fall, away from the corners, the hydrants and the storm inlets, so they stay safe through the whole winter and not only after the first storm.
Lots along US 40
US 40 is the old National Road, and through Plainfield it carries strip centers, restaurants, churches, offices and the older businesses near Main Street. Some lots are new and wide. Some are tight older lots with the building close to the road and the parking squeezed behind it. The tight lots are harder, because there is nowhere obvious to put the snow and the piles end up blocking the spaces customers need.
On those, the plan is set before the season: which corner the snow goes to, when it gets hauled, and which walks and steps are salted first. Church lots are planned around service times, shops around opening hours. Salt goes on with every plowing, only on ice, or on request, and the owner decides. The areas that get it are listed by name.
Subdivisions, HOAs and side pads
Plainfield's neighborhoods have gone in steadily from the 1970s on, and the HOAs run the entrances, the common areas and, in some neighborhoods, private streets. The town plows public streets. Everything the association owns is the association's to clear. A board can put its entrances, mailbox clusters and private streets on one seasonal contract, with a trigger depth the board chooses and a rule for when the common walks are salted.
On a single lot the call is usually the drive and the walk, plus the side pad where the camper, boat or work trailer sits. A pad that has to be open for a work trailer on a weekday morning is plowed with the drive. It is usually stone, so the plow rides a little high. Homeowners can call when the snow is down or put the drive on the season.
Flat ground and refreeze
Plainfield sits on the Central Till Plain, and the ground between White Lick Creek and Clark's Creek is flat clay that drains slowly. Snow piles on that ground melt in the afternoon, the water spreads instead of running off, and it freezes again at night. Freezing rain does the same thing without a pile. Central Indiana gets a few real snows a winter and more ice than snow, so the ice plan matters as much as the plow.
That plan is simple. Keep the storm inlets clear so the melt has a way out, put the piles where the water runs toward an inlet or onto grass, and salt the areas where people walk and trucks brake. The snow removal page for central Indiana has the rest of the service, from salting and sidewalks to hauling and seasonal contracts.

Questions people ask
Not seeing yours? Call (317) 203-8928 and ask Travis, or read the guides.
Can a Plainfield warehouse get a seasonal snow contract?
Yes. The contract lists the truck court, dock aprons, employee lot, entrances and walks, the trigger that sends the plow out, the salting, and whether pile hauling is included. The site is walked in the fall so pile spots, inlets, hydrants and curbs are marked on bare pavement. Travis gives one figure for the scope you choose.
Who plows the road in front of my business on US 40?
US 40 is a state route, so the state plows it. Town streets are the town's. The lot, the entrances and the walks on your property are yours, and so is the ridge the road plow leaves across the entrance. A contract can include a pass back through the entrances after the road has been plowed.
Does the town plow my subdivision street?
Public streets, yes. Some Plainfield subdivisions have streets the HOA still owns, and those streets, the entrances, the common drives and the mailbox clusters are the association's to clear. The HOA documents or the plat say which is which. If the street is private, the board decides the trigger and signs the contract.
Why do the piles on our lot cause ice?
Because Plainfield is flat. A pile melts in the afternoon, the water spreads across the pavement instead of running off, and it freezes overnight. Piles placed so the melt runs to a storm inlet or onto grass, inlets kept clear and salt on the walking areas take care of most of it. Hauling the pile off ends it.
Can the trailer pad beside my garage be plowed?
Yes. The side pad for a camper, boat or work trailer is plowed with the drive and the walk. If the trailer has to move on a weekday morning, say so, and the pad goes on the same visit as the drive. It is usually stone, so the plow rides a little high to keep the surface where it belongs.
